Behind the Brush

I'm Cori Lopez Thompson. I was born and raised in Houston. I am a working artist, experienced art teacher, and homeschool parent of 2 teens.

Over the last 20 years, my art education has ranged from formal to self-taught. I studied Black and White Film Photography at Houston Community College and apprenticed with a professional photographer doing digital portrait and event photography, and postproduction using Adobe Photoshop. Additionally, I studied studio art at Texas Southern University, focusing on charcoal drawing, oil painting, art history, and African art.

Apple Procreate, textile painting, alcohol ink, watercolor marker, and high-flow acrylics are a few of my self-taught endeavors. YouTube helps.

I currently do commissioned art pieces in multiple disciplines including mural, illustration, oil and acrylic painting, and digital drawing. Additionally, I teach painting and drawing to young learners at a learning center in 3rd Ward.

Mission

Whether you commission me for a piece of art or I teach you how to paint, I aim to co-create with folks to bring their creative vision to life. Through my love of people and curiosity about their life experiences, I am able to build connections that inspire creativity and artful purpose.

Vision

Before we read and write, we make art. I started Glow Art HTX to cultivate, in growing artists, a love and understanding of creating fine art. Through a personalized approach, gaining foundational painting and drawing skills is fun and fulfilling.

Glow Art HTX is also the hub in which I showcase some of my art and connect with folks seeking a collaborative experience making their own creative imaginings come to life.
